War of the Welds

An alarming experiment has revealed that where your car is repaired after a crash could be a life or death decision.

Crash tests showed that in a Vauxhall Vectra welded to industry standards the driver would have come out unscathed in a 30mph collision.

Test were carried by the car research firm Thatcham at its laboratory.
More than 5.7 million body repairs were done in the UK last year. But just 300 of the 4,000 workshops were kitemarked to manufacturer standards - with many unaware of how newer car models should be repaired.
